My name is Marc Neilson
I am the founder of Neilson Consultancy and for more than three decades, I've delivered training programs and facilitated events for governments, UN agencies, and a myriad of other clients -- from Burundi to Singapore.

Example: Recently, a University needed a highly tailored training session for early to mid-career professionals. The professionals needed useful communication strategies and self-presentation skills when repositioning professionally or being fairly new to the international relations environment. A half-day workshop was designed to help participants move beyond code-switching and toward something more sustainable: a clear, authentic professional voice that translates across rooms. AI helped establish the curriculum approach, timing, and materials. Expertise elevated the course to address the various career stages, ensure relevancy, and most importantly, conduct the in-person delivery while connecting with the audience.
About the founder
Marc Neilson grew up in the Dallas, TX area and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of North Texas (UNT), majoring in French and Anthropology. He is a fluent French speaker and has enjoyed working and studying abroad in various Francophone countries.
Following his studies at UNT, Marc joined the Peace Corp and spent three years as a volunteer high school English Teacher in Ethiopia. Marc stayed on in Ethiopia as a contractor and later transitioned to the North of Zambia, where he was attached to the UN World Food Program at a refugee camp. He enjoyed two years in Zambia, where he met his future wife, and subsequently returned to the US to complete his Masters degree at American University (AU), with a concentration in international relations.
Following AU and a few short stints at government contracting agencies, Marc returned to the UN World Food Program as a program officer based in Vientiane, Laos and continued with the Program in Indonesia and Burundi. He worked with local governments to improve food security for those impacted by natural disasters, and later became a donor relations officer -- securing millions in funding for multiple programs.
Marc and his family (now including two children) returned to the US where he began a new career with the World Bank Group. His work at the World Bank ranged from disaster risk management to corporate training and he still consults there to this day. He has multiple publications with the World Bank and has enjoyed his time there traveling and working in more than 35 countries.
Marc launched Neilson Consultancy in 2018 and currently contracts with various agencies throughout the Washington, DC area. He lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife and two children.
